Compliance Navigator Instructions and License Agreement

Please read this document before using the disks. By downloading or using the Compliance Navigator Application, you acknowledge your agreement to the terms of this license. Questions about the meta-analysis should be directed to Jeann Lee Gillespie.

Equipment
Minimum recommended computer to run this application is a 486/66 with 8 MB RAM. It is also suggested that you use 32 bit File and Disk access, or Win95, as well as enhanced IDE. To view reports to screen, make sure you have the HPIII printer driver loaded as a viable printer option in Windows.

Installing the Compliance Navigator Application

  1. Download npcinst.exe to a specified location on your PC.
  2. After download, run or click (from the location specified above) npcinst.exe to extract the install files.
  3. The extraction utility will ask to select a specified folder and location to extract to (i.e. C:\temp).  Once user selected, continue with extraction (click EXTRACT button.)
  4. The extraction utility will create a folder labeled NPCINSTA within the specified location user directed in #3, above, and extract the install files.
  5. Within the NPCINSTA folder run or click setup.exe
  6. The setup program will automatically default to the (C:) drive and then to the (C:\META) folder.  If this is ok, select and continue.
  7. Upon the setup program request to insert diskette two or three, simply press the OK button to continue (the files are already located in the NPCINSTA folder).
  8. When the setup program asks if you want this software to modify your "autoexec.bat" and then your "config.sys" files, say NO to both.
  9. A Program Group (NPC) and Program Item will be created for you.
  10. You are now ready to use the Compliance Navigator Application on a stand-alone computer.

Running the Application
To run the Compliance Navigator Application, simply double-click on the Compliance Navigator Application Icon. You will access the splash screen. Push the "Begin" button to access an information screen. You can access the definitions from any screen by clicking on the Definitions button. Selecting "Continue" will place you at the Compliance Navigator main menu, where you have the following options:

Click the About the Project button for general information about Compliance Navigator.

Applications
Click the Applications button for information on the value of 1) providing an empirical basis for implementing compliance initiatives and 2) implementing meaningful outcome measures related to compliance.

Policy Implications
Click the Policy Implications button for policy information about Compliance Navigator.

General Findings
Click the General Findings button for information on the results of the meta-analysis.

Browse Abstracts
Click the Browse Abstracts button to view the abstracts by demographics.

Meta-Statistics
Click the Meta-Statistics button to focus on the statistics and the abstracts of greatest interest to you.

Instructions
The Instructions button allows you to access the Compliance Navigator Application instructions. It also allows you to automatically rebuild indexes if you encounter a problem with the data. For instance, in the rare instance that you are unable to view abstracts or statistics, you should rebuild indexes.

Definitions
This lists pertinent definitions. Use the Find button to locate specific terms.

Quit
The Quit button allows you to exit the application.

Agreement Definitions

The term "Software" and/or "Application" as used in this agreement means the Compliance Navigator software contained on the disks in this package, including without limitation, the system and all utility computer programs, the data compilation, and any updates subsequently supplied by NPC.

The term "Software Copies" means the actual copies of all or any portion of the Software, including back-ups, updates, merged or partial copies permitted hereunder or subsequently supplied by NPC.

The term "Related Materials" means all the printed materials provided in this package or later supplied by NPC for use with the Software.

Permitted uses
You may:

  1. Use the Software on a single computer, only for the purpose of running the Application.
  2. Install the Software onto a permanent storage device (a hard disk drive)
  3. Make non-operational archival copies of the Software for backup purposes.
  4. Make one working copy of the Software Program.

If the working copy will no longer work properly, the Licensee may make another working copy of the Software Program but only if the inoperable working copy is destroyed. In addition, all the information appearing on the original disk labels (including the copyright notice, must be copied to the working copy labels.)

This license gives you certain limited rights to use the Software. You do not become an owner of the Software and NPC (and its licensors) retain all rights, title to and interest in all the Software, Software Copies and Related Materials. In addition, you agree to use reasonable efforts to protect the Software from unauthorized use, reproduction, and distribution, or publication. All rights not specifically granted in this license are reserved by NPC (or its licensors).

Uses not permitted
You may not:

  1. Make copies of the Software, except as permitted above.
  2. Make copies of the Related Materials, except as permitted above.
  3. In accordance with the Computer Software Rental Act of 1990, rent, lease, sub-license, lend or transfer the Software, Software Copies, Related Materials or your rights under this license without the prior written consent of NPC.
  4. Alter, modify, decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the Software or any component thereof.
  5. Remove or obscure the copyright and trademark notices.
  6. This Software and its documentation may not he provided by a "backup service" or any other vendor that does not provide an original package composed by NPC including but not limited to all original documentation, insertions, registration cards, and software.

Duration

This agreement is effective from the day you receive the disks. Your license continues until the sooner of twenty-five years or the date on which you return to NPC the Software, the Software Copies, and Related Materials.

If you breach this agreement, NPC can terminate this license by notifying you in writing. You will be required to return all Software, Software Copies, and Related Materials. NPC may also enforce other legal rights.

General Information

This agreement represents our entire understanding and agreement regarding the Software, Software Copies and Related Materials and supersedes any prior purchase order, communications, advertising, or representations

This license may only be modified in a written amendment signed by an authorized NPC representative. If any provision of this agreement shall be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable it shall be deemed severable from, and shall in no way affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions of this agreement. This agreement shall be governed by Virginia law. You acknowledge that you have read every provision of this contract. By using the disk(s), you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this contract.

Limited Warranty

NPC WARRANTS THAT THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM DISKS ON WHICH THE PROGRAM IS RECORDED WILL BE FREE FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP UNDER NORMAL USE AND SERVICE FOR A PERIOD OF NINETY (90) DAYS FROM THE DATE OF DELIVERY AS EVIDENCED BY A COPY OF YOUR RECEIPT. NPC'S ENTIRE LIABILITY AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY SHALL BE REPLACEMENT OF THE DISK NOT MEETING NPC'S LIMITED WARRANTY IF RETURNED TO NPC DURING THE 90 DAY PERIOD.

EXCEPT FOR THE FOREGOING, THIS PRODUCT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PROGRAM IS ASSUMED BY YOU. NPC (AND ITS LICENSORS) DO NOT WARRANT, GUARANTEE, OR MAKE ANY REPRESENTATIONS REGARDING THE USE OF, RESULTS OF, MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR USE OF THE PRODUCT. SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU (AND NOT NPC OR ITS LICENSORS) ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR CORRECTION. FURTHER, NPC (AND ITS LICENSORS) DO NOT WARRANT, GUARANTEE, OR MAKE ANY REPRESENTATIONS REGARDING THE USE OF, OR THE RESULTS OF THE USE OF THE PROGRAM IN TERMS OF CORRECTNESS, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, CURRENTNESS, OR OTHERWISE; AND YOU RELY ON THE PROGRAM AND RESULTS SOLELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. NPC (AND ITS LICENSORS) WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO SYSTEM DAMAGE, SERVICE, REPAIR, CORRECTION, LOSS OF PROFIT, LOST SAVINGS, OR ANY OTHER INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR SPECIAL DAMAGES OF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER RESULTING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THIS PRODUCT.

The Software, Software Copies, and all Related Materials are NOT in the public domain. It is copyrighted by NPC. All rights reserved. Except as previously outlined, copying, duplicating, selling or otherwise distributing this product is a violation of the law.
