In the December issue of Employee Benefit News, NPC Vice President of Comparative Effectiveness Research Jennifer Graff, PharmD, outlines a framework for the consideration of treatment flexibility in benefit design. The framework, derived from interviews and focus groups with a wide range of stakeholders, can help employers and health plans determine when benefit designs for particular conditions are “super-sized,” “minimized” or “right-sized.” Dr. Graff concludes that “because the most inefficient care is the care that does not work, a ‘one-size fits all’ approach to medications may not meet the diverse health care needs of plan members.”
