Washington, D.C. (July 14, 2015)—The National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC) today welcomed Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc. (Takeda), a wholly owned subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, as the newest member of the health care policy research organization.

“We are pleased to include Takeda among our member companies and welcome their full participation in NPC’s activities,” said NPC President Dan Leonard. “We appreciate having their perspective as we consider how to address through our research the many challenges confronting the health care system today.”

Located in Deerfield, Illinois, with a global headquarters in Japan, Takeda is a leader in the pharmaceutical industry. Takeda has served communities for more than 230 years through the development of health care solutions from prevention, to care, to cure.

Charles Baum, MD, MS, Vice President, U.S. Medical and Scientific Affairs, will serve as the company’s representative on the NPC board of directors.

“As the health care environment continues to change at a rapid pace, I’m looking forward to working with NPC and contributing to their efforts to support the value of biopharmaceuticals and innovation with the goal of advancing patient care,” said Dr. Baum.

NPC is actively engaged in conducting health care policy research on understanding the role and value of pharmaceuticals within the current and evolving payment and delivery models, the challenges of individual patient treatment effects and the utilization of real-world evidence and comparative effectiveness research.
