Re-Centering Real-World Data on the Individual
(5/12, STAT Brand Studio) comments “...Evidation’s model also allows it to recontact and recruit research participants, making their RWD ‘interactive’ in nature. As [CEO Leslie Oley Wilberforce] explains: ‘You may have an initial insight from a real-world data set, and that might prompt you to ask if we can go back to this population and ask a set of follow-on questions … Or you may ask if we could do a prospective observational study on this sub-cohort of people.’ This ability to extend and iterate research has the potential to deepen insight and impact.” Full

Rethinking Medication Adherence: A Stakeholder Blueprint
(5/12, ISPOR Press Release) “...‘The prevalence of nonadherence to prescription medication can be as high as 50%,’ said author Bijan Borah, PhD, Professor of Health Services Research, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Rochester, Minnesota, and the current Chair of the ISPOR Special Interest Group on Medication Adherence and Persistence. ‘Besides being highly correlated with adverse health outcomes, medication nonadherence often leads to potentially avoidable healthcare utilizations, with associated annual adjusted costs per person ranging from $949 to $44,190 (2015 US$).’” Full
GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Show Anti-Cancer Benefits Beyond Weight Loss
(5/12, European Association for the Study of Obesity Press Release) “...To assess the comparative effect beyond the extent of weight-loss (which mediates the reduction in cancer risk following treatment), the researchers further adjusted the analysis for the percent of maximal BMI change during follow-up (i.e., how much an individual's BMI changed). They found that GLP1-RAs had a direct effect on reducing obesity-related cancer beyond weight-loss, with a 41% lower relative risk compared to bariatric surgery.” Full
