Experts Mixed On How Most-Favored-Nation Drug Pricing Would Affect Prices, Access, And Innovation

Bond, Health Affairs Forefront) comments “...Experts were conflicted about whether MFN pricing would substantially reduce pharmaceutical innovation benefiting US patients. Thirty-eight percent agreed or strongly agreed that such a policy would reduce innovation, 28 percent disagreed or strongly disagreed, and 32 percent were uncertain. Several panelists suggested that the policy could lead to some decline in innovation because the US represents a large share of global pharmaceutical revenue. However, experts also noted that the effects depend on the magnitude of the decline in global revenues and that reductions in innovation may not be substantial because reductions in revenue are most likely for medications with lower expected returns on investment.” Full
