(5/27, The Evidence Base) reports “...[Matthias Hofer, Senior Principal Economist, and Amanda Cole, Director at the Office of Health Economics:] Early-stage development is predominantly driven by small companies and start-ups, supported by VC. As assets progress, larger companies become increasingly involved...When pricing policy reduces expected returns and revenues – particularly late in the product lifecycle – it affects the investment decisions and exits at each of these handoff points. For example, a smaller company raising Series B funding, or negotiating a licensing deal, is doing so against a backdrop of what a large company might eventually pay for the asset, which in turn depends on what revenue it can expect to generate. If the latter falls, the effect ripples backwards through the full innovation and investor ecosystem.” Full
