AcademyHealth, in collaboration with the National Pharmaceutical Council, hosted a webinar, Understanding the Costs and True Benefits of SDOH Investments, as part of a Health Spending webinar series, which seeks to promote serious evidence-based discussions related to costs, value, and allocation of health care spending and how those expenditures can best generate improved health outcomes. Access the summary blog here. Watch the archived webinar on demand.
Over the last few years, there have rightly been major investments across payers, foundation, and other entities in programs and data collection related to the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Still, effectively measuring the impact and ROI of these investments remains a major challenge. This webinar aims to generate a broader conversation on how to design and evaluate SDOH programs from a cost perspective, better understand which “tradeoffs” with other health care spending might be most impactful, and what additional data is needed to accomplish these goals.
- Review findings from a recent analysis of SDOH programs and potential economic benefit
- Discuss how organizations may choose to be more targeted with SDOH efforts from a true cost/benefit perspective
- Explore how we might define success for SDOH programs moving forward.
