Understanding the Strengths and Limitations of Value Assessment Frameworks: An Interactive Workshop with Tufts Medical Center

In the midst of the debate over health care, the issues of cost and value have remained at the fore. How do we bring evidence of value to bear on decision-making on drugs and other treatments? Join Tufts Medical Center’s Joshua Cohen, PhD, Peter Neumann, ScD, and Jordan Anderson, BA, for an interactive workshop designed to help participants better understand emerging Value Assessment Frameworks. Sponsored by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and the National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC), the Tufts team will walk participants through value frameworks developed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (DrugAbacus), and the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER). The session will present a series of case studies based on treatments currently on the market to help participants gain a better understanding of the calculations that serve as the foundation for the different frameworks. The accompanying lecture and discussion will explore each framework’s strengths, limitations and inconsistencies.
