The Big Beautiful Bill Fixes One Drug Problem—But Highlights An Even Bigger One
(7/21, Sally Pipes, Forbes.com) comments “...The Incubate Coalition's Life Sciences Investment Tracker shows that drug companies have discontinued more than 50 research programs and canceled 26 drug projects since the passage of the IRA. And there's evidence that companies have been curtailing their research into orphan drugs, in particular. According to the National Pharmaceutical Council, ‘the percentage of drugs with a first orphan designation that later received a second designation decreased by 48.0%’ after the [IRA] passed. That's especially shocking considering that, over the four years prior to the passage of the bill, the number of orphan drugs that received a second indication had been steadily increasing.” Full
Study Reveals Comparative Effectiveness of Dietary Interventions for Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity Management
(7/21, Kennedy Ferruggia, The American Journal of Managed Care) reports “Various dietary approaches, including intermittent energy restriction (IER), time-restricted eating (TRE), and continuous energy restriction (CER), are all effective in improving blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity. The study authors, who presented their findings at the Endocrine Society’s 2025 annual meeting, noted that the current research is the first to compare the effects of 3 different dietary interventions.” Full

Health Cuts Would Result in Fewer Drugs for Americans, Budget Office Reports
